The Jiangnan U2 is an all-electric subcompact hatchback launched in February 2023 by Jiangnan, a marque under Zotye Auto, positioned as a 5-door, 5-seater urban commuter. As the brand's first all-new offering following Zotye's restructuring, it is built on the J-Smart 1.0 dedicated EV platform and champions an "urban retro aesthetic" alongside smart tech features. The lineup comprises six variants across three CLTC-rated range options of 151km, 305km, and 406km, priced between RM56,800 and RM98,800.

Positioned as an A0-segment pure electric hatchback, the Jiangnan U2 represents Zotye Auto's Jiangnan brand. Its core selling propositions include a generous 2,521mm wheelbase, a 10.1-inch detachable central touchscreen, Mobileye EyeQ4-powered Level 2 ADAS (exclusive to the top-spec trim), and a maximum range of up to 406km. Key rivals in its price segment include the Leapmotor T03, BYD Dolphin, and ORA Good Cat.
Embodying an "urban retro aesthetic", the front fascia integrates oval headlamp clusters into a blanked-off grille, paired with a sculpted front bumper to create a rounded, chic look. Body dimensions stand at 3,840/1,742/1,545mm with a 2,521mm wheelbase, delivering standout interior space within the A0 segment. The side profile incorporates flush door handles, a dual-tone paint scheme, and aerodynamic wheel caps, with six exterior paint options including Light Oxygen Blue and Charlotte Yellow. The minimalist cabin features a fully digital instrument cluster alongside a 10.1-inch floating central touchscreen that can be detached for use as a standalone tablet.
Three electric motor output levels are available across the range:
| Variant | Power | Torque | Range | 0-50km/h Acceleration |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Low-output version | 30kW (48PS) | 100N·m | 151km | 4.5 seconds |
| Mid-output version | 55kW (75PS) | 120N·m | 305km | 4.5 seconds |
| High-output version | 80kW (109PS) | 160N·m | 406km | 3.0 seconds |
All variants are fitted with lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery packs (cells supplied by REPT BATTERO, Gotion High-Tech, and Teamgiant). Except for the entry-level 151km version which supports AC slow charging only, the rest support DC fast charging (taking 30 minutes to reach 80% SoC). The chassis setup features front MacPherson struts with a rear torsion beam, paired with front disc and rear drum brakes.
Equipment levels vary considerably across variants: lower-spec trims make do with a single driver's airbag, steel wheels, and a 2-speaker audio system; the range-topping 400 Pro (RM98,800) is equipped with a Mobileye EyeQ4 chip, five ultrasonic sensors, and four cameras, delivering 10 Level 2 ADAS functions including Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), and Lane Centring Control (LCC). Tyre pressure monitoring, hill-start assist, and Bluetooth digital key are standard across the board, though Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) is absent throughout the entire range.
As Zotye's maiden product following corporate restructuring, the Jiangnan U2 carries high expectations for the marque's revival. Its main competitive edges lie in its spacious rear legroom courtesy of the 2,521mm wheelbase, an ample range of up to 406km, and class-rare Level 2 ADAS capabilities. During its initial rollout, early buyers were offered a lifetime warranty on the electric powertrain as well as complimentary lifetime roadside assistance. However, in the face of intense market competition, rebuilding brand reputation will remain a long-term journey.
